Elna Elina 21: practical sewing, mending and alterations
Choose a stitch, set its length and start your next project with the Elna Elina 21. This mechanical machine has 15 built-in stitches, including a four-step buttonhole. It gives you useful options for everyday seams, stretch fabrics and finishing details.
The front stitch chart keeps your choices in view. Clip-on feet make changing techniques straightforward, and the removable accessory compartment reveals a free arm for smaller openings.
Choose stitches for your fabric
Use the selector dial for your stitch and the length dial to adjust the seam. Maximum stitch width is 5 mm and length is 4 mm. Stretch stitches and stretch-stitch adjustment help you choose a setting for knitted fabrics.
The machine supports twin-needle sewing. Use a suitable needle and follow the threading and stitch-setting instructions for your machine. Test on spare fabric before sewing a finished garment.
Prepare the thread and bobbin
The front-loading oscillating-hook system uses a removable bobbin case. A push-pull bobbin winder helps with preparation. Two retractable vertical spool pins support the thread spools.
A manual thread cutter trims thread ends, and the sewing light illuminates the needle area. Match the needle and thread to your fabric, then check the tension on a test seam.
Sew hems, zips and buttonholes
The supplied zipper foot helps you stitch beside zip teeth. Use the blind-hem foot for discreet hems and the sliding buttonhole foot for a four-step buttonhole.
Metric and inch guide lines on the needle plate help you keep a consistent seam allowance. The reverse lever helps secure the beginning and end of a seam.
Make room for different techniques
Remove the accessory box for free-arm sewing around sleeves and trouser legs. The extra presser-foot lift helps you position fabric beneath the foot. Lower the feed dogs for suitable techniques where you move the fabric yourself.
The folding handle makes the machine easier to move. It weighs approximately 7 kg and sews at speeds up to 860 stitches per minute, controlled with the foot pedal.

It is a mechanical machine. You choose the stitch with a dial and control sewing speed with the foot pedal.
Can I sew stretch fabrics?
Yes. Stretch stitches and stretch-stitch adjustment are available. Choose a needle and thread suited to the fabric, then check the seam on an offcut.
How does the four-step buttonhole work?
Fit the sliding buttonhole foot and sew the four stages using the selector settings. Practise with the same fabric and interfacing before sewing the buttonhole on your garment.
Does it have a drop-in bobbin?
The Elina 21 uses a front-loading bobbin in a removable bobbin case. The instruction manual shows how to wind, insert and thread it.
Can I use it for free-motion work?
The feed dogs can be lowered. Use a suitable optional darning foot and follow the instruction book for the technique. Guide the fabric yourself and practise coordinating fabric movement with sewing speed.
Can it handle thick fabrics and bulky seams?
