Janome MyLock 644D: neat seams, rolled hems and decorative edges

Trim and finish a fabric edge in one pass with the Janome MyLock 644D. Choose two, three or four threads for seam finishing, rolled hems and flatlocking. Adjustable differential feed helps you manage stretched edges on knits and puckering on fine woven fabrics.

The 644D gives you manual control over tension, stitch length, cutting width and presser-foot pressure. Its easy-access lower-looper threading mechanism and lay-in tension system make rethreading more manageable.

Choose the finish your project needs

Use four-thread overlocking for seams and three-thread overlocking for edge finishing. Two-thread flatlocking creates a lighter, flatter decorative finish. The included two-thread spreader lets you set the machine up for two-thread work.

For a narrow rolled hem, move the needle-plate setting to the rolled-hem position. You do not need a different needle plate. The lower-looper pre-tension slider helps with the changeover.

Keep fabric edges under control

Differential feed changes how the two sets of feed dogs move the fabric. Adjust it to help prevent a knit edge stretching or a lightweight woven fabric puckering. It also gives you creative options for gathering and decorative edges.

Adjust stitch length from 1 to 5 mm and set the cutting width to suit your seam. The upper knife retracts when your technique requires sewing without trimming.

Reach the threading points

Colour-coded guides and the chart inside the front cover show the thread paths. The lower-looper threading mechanism brings its harder-to-reach threading points into a more accessible position.

Raise the presser foot to release the tension discs for threading. Lower it before sewing. The supplied handheld needle threader helps with the needles. Threading is manual; this model does not use air threading.

Keep your workspace tidy

The lint catcher collects fabric trimmings as you sew. Store small tools in the accessory box and trim thread chains with the side cutter. A carry handle helps when moving the 8 kg machine.

The 644D arrives threaded with four cones of white overlocker thread. Make a test seam on an offcut before starting your project, then adjust the settings for your fabric.

Frequently asked questions

Is the MyLock 644D suitable for a first overlocker?

The colour-coded paths, lay-in tensions and lower-looper threading mechanism are useful when learning. Follow the supplied instruction book and practise threading and sewing on scraps before starting a garment.

How do I thread the 644D?

Follow the colour-coded diagram and the order in the instruction book: lower looper, upper looper, right needle, then left needle. Raise the presser foot to release the tensions. Switch the machine off while threading.

Does it make a rolled hem?

Yes. It makes a three-thread rolled hem. Use the rolled-hem needle-plate setting and the appropriate looper, needle and tension settings in the manual.

What does differential feed do?

It changes the relative movement of the front and rear feed dogs. This helps control wavy knit edges or puckered woven fabric. Test on a scrap of the same fabric and adjust until the edge lies as you want it.

Can it replace my sewing machine or make a coverstitch hem?

It complements your sewing machine by trimming and finishing edges. It does not make coverstitches, chain stitches or conventional sewing-machine buttonholes.

Can I sew without cutting the edge?

Yes. The upper knife can be retracted. Follow the manual’s setup instructions and keep the fabric edge clear of the moving parts.

Where can I see the features in more detail?

Read Janome’s MyLock 644D brochure. An instruction book is included with your machine.
