Janome Sewist 725S: practical controls for everyday sewing
Sew a garment, mend a favourite piece or start a home project with simple dial controls. The Sewist 725S combines a top-loading bobbin, built-in needle threader and one-step buttonhole with adjustable presser-foot pressure.
Choose from 25 everyday, stretch and decorative stitches from the chart on the front of the machine. A hard cover is included for storage, and the carry handle helps when moving the machine to your sewing space.
Set up for your fabric
The foot-pressure dial changes how firmly the foot holds the fabric against the feed dogs. Use the setting recommended for your fabric, then check the feeding and stitch balance on an offcut.
Extra-high foot lift helps you position thicker seams beneath the foot. Choose a suitable needle and thread for your project. Build up to more demanding materials with a sample first.
Prepare the thread and bobbin
The bobbin loads from the top, and its clear cover helps you check the thread supply. The bobbin winder declutches automatically for winding. Follow the printed threading path when setting up.
The built-in needle threader helps pass thread through the needle eye. LED lighting illuminates the needle area. The side cutter trims thread ends by hand.
Make buttonholes to suit the button
The automatic one-step buttonhole uses the buttonhole foot to set the buttonhole size. Follow the instruction book when placing the button and lowering the buttonhole lever.
Test a buttonhole on matching fabric with suitable interfacing. Check the fit before cutting the opening in the finished garment.
Choose and adjust the stitch
Use the selector dial to choose a stitch from the front chart. Stitch width adjusts up to 5 mm and length up to 4 mm. Stretch-stitch adjustment helps balance eligible patterns.
The reverse control helps secure seam ends. The machine also supports twin-needle sewing with a suitable needle, thread setup and stitch width. Check the manual before using a twin needle.
Work around sleeves and hems
Remove the accessory compartment to expose the free arm for trouser hems, sleeves and other smaller openings. Needle-plate guides help you follow a consistent seam allowance.
Clip-on feet make it easier to change sewing techniques. Use the appropriate foot for zips, edge finishing, blind hems and buttonholes.
Explore quilting and free-motion work
Lower the feed dogs for suitable free-motion or darning techniques where you move the fabric yourself. Use the correct optional darning foot and practise controlling the fabric and pedal together.
The 725S uses foot-pedal speed control. It has mechanical controls rather than the start/stop and speed-slider controls found on computerised models.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Sewist 725S suitable for learning?
The dial controls, front stitch chart, top-loading bobbin and needle threader give you practical tools for learning. Start with basic seams, then try the buttonhole and other stitches as your confidence grows.
Does it have a one-step buttonhole?
Yes. Use the automatic buttonhole foot and follow the setup in the instruction book. Make a sample using the same fabric, interfacing and button before sewing the garment.
What does adjustable foot pressure do?
It changes the pressure holding the fabric against the feed dogs. Adjust it for your material and technique, then test the feeding on a scrap. Foot pressure and upper-thread tension are separate adjustments.
Can I control sewing speed without the pedal?
The 725S uses the supplied foot control to regulate speed. It does not have a separate electronic speed slider or pedal-free start/stop button.
Can it sew jeans and thicker seams?
It can handle suitable denim projects with the right needle, thread and setup. Test the actual fabric layers and avoid forcing the machine over a bulky crossing. Contact our friendly team if thick materials will be your main work.
Can it do free-motion quilting?
It has drop feed for suitable free-motion work. A compatible optional darning foot and practice with fabric movement and pedal speed are needed. Specialist quilting feet are additional accessories.
Does it include a hard cover?
Yes. The hard cover protects the machine between projects. Keep the original carton and packing if you need to transport it for servicing or moving.
How should I choose between a mechanical and computerised machine?
Choose the controls and functions you will use. The 725S offers direct mechanical settings and a one-step buttonhole. Compare a computerised model if you want features such as a speed slider, needle up/down button or automatic thread cutter.
