Janome AirThread 2000D Professional: simpler threading for seam finishing
The Janome AirThread 2000D uses a blast of air to pass thread through the upper and lower loopers. A separate built-in needle threader handles the left or right needle. These features simplify setup, so you can spend more time sewing garments and finishing fabric edges.
Choose two-, three- or four-thread overlocking, rolled hems or flatlocking. Adjust the feed, foot pressure and cutting width to suit your fabric. A waste tray collects the trimmed edges, and the flat work area supports your project.
Thread the loopers with air
Insert the thread into the threading port and use the looper-selection lever and air-threading mechanism as directed in the instruction book. The blast of air carries the thread through the selected looper. Colour-coded guides and the threading chart help with the rest of the thread path.
Slide the needle-threader selector to the left or right needle. For heavier threads that need a different threading method, a wire looper threader is included. Lift the presser foot to release the tensions during setup.
Adjust the fabric feed
The eight-piece feed dog and grooved standard foot help guide fabric through the machine. Five levels of foot pressure let you adjust the contact between the foot and fabric. Use normal pressure as a starting point, then test your seam.
The integrated stitch-length and differential-feed dials keep these settings together. Set length from 1 to 5 mm and differential feed from 0.5 to 2.0. Adjust the feed to help control wavy knit edges, puckering or deliberate gathering effects.
Choose the width and finish
Cutting width adjusts from 3.3 to 7.5 mm, depending on which needle you use. Open the front cover to access the upper-knife control. Turn the dial to lower the knife when your technique calls for sewing without trimming, then re-engage it for normal overlocking.
A built-in converter supports two-thread stitches. The chaining-finger switch and lower-looper pretension slider help with rolled-hem changeover. Follow the stitch settings in the book rather than using the same tensions for every finish.
Work with accessible controls
The main shaft runs on two ball bearings. The foot control operates the machine at speeds up to 1,300 stitches per minute. White LED lighting illuminates the needle area, while the manual cutter on the face plate trims the thread chain after sewing.
The safety system prevents sewing with a cover open, the presser foot raised or the air-threading mechanism engaged. Return the machine to its sewing setup before using the foot control. The carry handle, accessory box and dust cover help with storage between projects.

Frequently asked questions
Does air threading also thread the needles?
No. Air threading handles the two loopers. Use the separate built-in needle threader for the left or right needle. The instruction book explains the sequence and selector settings.
Does it make coverstitch hems?
No. It makes overlocking stitches, flatlocking and rolled hems. It does not make coverstitch or chain stitch. Choose a coverstitch machine if you want that type of garment hem.
Can I use two threads?
Yes. The built-in converter supports two-thread stitching. Use the correct needle, converter position and thread settings for the stitch in the instruction book.
How do I make a rolled hem?
Use the chaining-finger switch and lower-looper pretension slider, then follow the manual’s needle and tension settings. Test on the same fabric as your project before sewing the hem.
Can I sew without cutting the fabric edge?
Yes. Lower the upper knife with its control dial for techniques that require it. Follow the book’s setup and keep the fabric clear of moving parts.
Why will the machine not sew after threading?
Check that the covers are closed, the presser foot is lowered and the air-threading mechanism has returned to its sewing position. These are part of the safety system. Consult the instruction book if the machine still will not run.
Where can I find the features and setup details?
Read Janome’s AirThread 2000D brochure. The supplied instruction book covers threading, stitch settings and care.
