Janome My Excel 18W: practical mechanical sewing
The My Excel 18W Limited Edition, model MW3018LE, combines mechanical controls with 18 built-in stitches and a one-step buttonhole. Use it for dressmaking, repairs, quilting and home projects. Its rigid die-cast aluminium frame and seven-piece feed dog provide a solid foundation for everyday sewing.
A reference guide inside the lid shows stitch settings, recommended feet and applications. The built-in needle threader and top-loading bobbin help with preparation. Your package includes seven sewing feet, a quilting guide and a hard cover.

Choose a stitch with the lid reference guide
Open the top lid for the quick reference chart. It helps you choose the stitch, width, length and foot for the sewing task. A red indicator shows your selected stitch.
Stitch width adjusts up to 6.5 mm and length up to 4 mm. Adjust the needle position with the width slider for suitable straight stitching. The needle plate has seam and angle guides to help with accurate placement.

Adjust for the fabric you are sewing
Change foot pressure and thread tension to suit your fabric. The seven-piece feed dog moves material through the machine, while the extra-high foot lift helps you position thicker layers.
Choose a suitable needle and thread for denim, woven or stretch fabrics. Test your settings and layers on an offcut. Sew bulky joins slowly and let the feed system move the fabric.
Make threading and preparation easier
The rotary-hook bobbin loads from the top, with a clear cover so you can check the thread supply. The built-in needle threader helps guide thread through the needle eye.
Snap-on feet make it easy to change between general sewing, hems, zips and decorative work. The accessory compartment keeps your feet and tools close at hand.

Move between flat-bed and free-arm sewing
Remove the accessory compartment to expose the free arm for cuffs, sleeves and small tubular pieces. Lower the feed dogs for darning or free-motion work with a suitable optional foot.
The foot control sets your sewing pace, up to 800 stitches per minute. Use reverse stitching to secure seam ends and the manual face-plate cutter to trim thread tails. The folding handle and hard cover help with moving and storing the machine.

Questions about the My Excel 18W
Is the My Excel 18W computerised?
No. The MW3018LE uses mechanical stitch controls and a red stitch indicator. The guide in the lid helps you select settings. You control sewing with the foot pedal.
What does the chart inside the lid show?
It shows the stitch choices, recommended width and length, suitable feet and sewing applications. Use it as a starting guide, then test and adjust the settings for your fabric.
Can I sew denim and thicker fabrics?
Yes. The frame, feed system, adjustable pressure and extra-high foot lift support a range of sewing projects. Choose the right needle and thread, test the actual layers and sew bulky joins slowly. Ask our friendly team about the materials you plan to use.
How does the one-step buttonhole work?
Place your button in the automatic buttonhole foot and set the machine for buttonhole sewing. Lower the buttonhole lever and follow the instruction book. Make a test buttonhole on matching fabric and stabiliser before sewing your garment.
Can it quilt or sew free-motion designs?
Yes. The quilting guide helps you sew evenly spaced lines. Lower the feed dogs and fit a suitable optional darning foot for free-motion work. Walking and quarter-inch feet are additional accessories for other quilting methods.
Does it cut threads automatically?
No. Trim the thread tails with the manual cutter on the face plate after finishing the seam.
Where can I find the features and operating instructions?
The instruction book is included. You can also view Janome’s Australian MW3018LE brochure. Use the supplied book for threading, stitch setup and maintenance.
