Janome MC550E: more room for your embroidery
Personalise garments, gifts and home furnishings with the Janome Memory Craft 550E. Its 200 × 360 mm embroidery area gives you room for larger designs. Four hoops and an extra-wide table are included, so you can choose a hoop that suits your project.
The MC550E is an embroidery-only machine. Pair it with your sewing machine for projects that combine construction and embroidered details. Choose from 180 built-in designs and six monogramming fonts, or import compatible designs through USB.

Personalise your projects
Explore built-in motifs, floral lettering, sashiko-style designs and in-the-hoop monster projects. Six fonts and two- or three-letter monograms help you add names and initials to gifts, towels and clothing.
The full-colour LCD touchscreen brings design selection and editing together. Arrange your embroidery before stitching, with the selected hoop shown on screen.
Arrange designs on screen
Enlarge or reduce designs, rotate or flip them, and drag them into position. Combine, duplicate and group elements to build a layout. Arc lettering, corner layouts and zoom help you place the details.
Colour grouping and single-colour sewing give you more control over the stitch-out. The thread-colour options include Janome, Robison-Anton, Madeira and Mettler.
Manage the stitch-out
Adjust embroidery speed from 400 to 860 stitches per minute. Programmable jump-thread trimming helps reduce loose threads between parts of a design. The automatic cutter cuts the upper and bobbin threads together.
Move through a design in steps of 1, 10 or 100 stitches, or jump directly to a stitch point. The return function helps you resume after a thread break. Adjustable hoop positioning helps align the design with your fabric.
Prepare and thread with less fuss
The threading guide and superior needle threader help with setup. The top-loading rotary-hook system has an Easy Set bobbin, and the bobbin-winding plate has a thread cutter. A bobbin-thread sensor helps you monitor the lower thread.
Five white LED lights illuminate the work area. The automatic power-off timer can be set through the machine settings. Use the extra-wide table to support larger hooped projects.

Frequently asked questions
Can the MC550E sew seams as well as embroider?
It is an embroidery-only machine. Use a separate sewing machine to sew seams, hems and buttonholes. The MC550E adds embroidered designs and lettering to your projects.
What is the difference between the MC500E and MC550E?
The original MC500E has a maximum embroidery area of 200 × 280 mm and 160 built-in designs. The MC550E increases that area to 200 × 360 mm and has 180 designs. Compare the supplied hoops and package when choosing between them.
Which hoops and table come with the machine?
The SQ14b, RE20b, SQ20b and RE36b hoops are included, along with the extra-wide table, eight magnetic clamps and anti-slip tape. The RE36b provides the full 200 × 360 mm embroidery area.
Can I embroider my own designs or a business logo?
Yes, when the design has been converted into suitable embroidery data. A photograph or logo image needs digitising first. On-screen editing arranges existing embroidery designs; it does not turn a picture into stitches. Ask our friendly team about suitable software or design preparation.
How do I transfer designs from my computer?
Use a USB memory stick or the direct PC connection with Embroidery Editor and the machine driver. Embroidery Editor is Windows software. Check its current computer requirements before installation. The machine supports JEF and JEF+ files, along with JPX and DST formats described in the manual. DST files do not carry thread-colour information.
What do I need for my first embroidery project?
Choose embroidery thread, bobbin thread, a suitable needle and stabiliser for your fabric. Hoop the fabric without stretching it and test on a sample. Follow the instruction book for threading, hoop attachment and design selection.
Where can I find the operating instructions?
Read the Janome MC550E instruction manual. Your package also includes an instruction book, quick reference guide and instructional video DVD.
